The Citadel is a military college in South Carolina. The reputation of this military educational institute has gone beyond the states’ borders. A rich history and high quality standards plead in favor of this institution. The college was founded in 1842 and had a very clear defined purpose: to prepare young men physically, intellectually and morally in order to become strong characters. Citadel graduates participated to every important event in the history of the United States of America starting with the Mexican War in 1846. It is the kind of American tradition carefully handled by each generation. Each student there is proud to follow the same education as many others great man did in the past.

Men and women studying there follow a strict military system. The essential part of this educational experience is character and leadership training. Most of the students decide to use their knowledge after graduation in military service. Others go in different directions with the diploma as a very important recommendation letter.

Five schools form the Citadel College. These are: Education, Engineering, Business, Social Sciences and Humanities, and Science and Mathematics. It offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs. In the annual ratings of U.S News and World Report the Citadel occupies a high place. In Citadel quality standards are never overlooked. This is part of the reputation gained over the years.

Every year the college is visited by future students and parents. The college is opened all year long to those curious to see the campus. Their tour includes the buildings, the library, alumni facilities, and, of course, Citadel’s gift shop. It is not allowed for such a famous college to not have a gift and souvenirs shop.
