State Of Texas Gift Shop
The State of Texas is one of the most renowned states of the American Union, for its traditions, for its people, history and language. Texas is the second largest federal state of the USA by the population and the largest of the 48 states of the Union known as the contiguous United States (without Alaska and Hawaii).
Texas is known as the Lone Star State due to the flag that has only one star on it. The word “texas” means “friend” or in The Caddo language. In the pre-European era, Texas was influenced by three of the most important cultures in the area: the Pueblo or the Anasazis were a culture that could be found west of Texas; Mississipian culture – east of Texas, and the Mesoamerican culture, centered south of Texas. All these cultures influenced the people living in the Texan territory.
After the arrival of Europeans in America, Texas belonged to Spain, United States, and Mexico. In 1835 there was a Texas Revolution. The revolution was defeated by the Mexican authorities in the battle of Alamo. On March 2, the same year Texas declared its independence and became Republic. Texas was actually sold to the USA and became part of the Union in 1850. During the Civil War Texas was a part of the Confederation. After the war, when the things settled, Texas became one of the most important industrial zones in the US, oil companies being the most important economic factor in the state.

Texas is not only the land of the cowboys and redneck oil magnates. High tech is also very present in the lone star state. US space program has its base at Houston, Texas.
