Louvre Museum Gift Shop

The Louvre  Museum or the Grand Louvre is not just one of largest museums in the world, but also the most visited. One of the central Paris landmarks the Musee du Louvre is located in the first district or, how the French call it, arrondissement. In numbers the museum looks like that: 652.300 square feet and 35.000 pieces of art. It opened in 1973 on 10 August with 537 paintings gathered in a first display. Under Napoleon the collection increased considerably and the museum was renamed Musee Napoleon. Louis XVIII and Charles X brought more and more pieces in the museum.

Starting with 2008 the entire collection has been divided into eight big departments. There are: Near Eastern Antiquities, Egyptian Antiquities, Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities, Sculpture, Decorative Arts, Prints and Drawings, Paintings and Islamic Art. The museum also has two sections: History of the Louvre and African, Oceanic and American Art. From 2004 Eugene Delacroix Musee was added to the administrative entity of the Louvre. The quality standards for every department are very high.

Every piece has a story, or better said a legend behind. Some of the most important names in art history occupy a place inside the outstanding building. Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Vermeer, Velasquez, Boucher or Delacroix are only a small part from a long and impressive list. The beauty of the collection stands in its diversion, in its power to “subjugate” the visitor.

To visit the museum requires a lot of time, energy and attention. You don’t want to miss any detail since every detail is part of a bigger puzzle. The big puzzle is nothing more and nothing less than art history in pure form. Ancient or modern the items in the exhibitions take you in a world of colors, shapes and muses. It’s important not just to see them but to see the substratum, to understand the message. Think and not just visualize.

Once the cultural visit is over the next stop must be at the Louvre museum gift shop. Take home not just the visual memories but also material ones.
