Online Natural Museum Gift Shops
The acronym AMNH stands for the American Museum of Natural History. 25 buildings interconnecting make the museum on of the largest natural history museums in the world. You will find the AMNH on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the cosmopolitan New York. Numbers are quite impressive when it comes to this museum in particular. Start with more than 32 million specimens from only which a small fraction is organized into 46 permanent exhibitions. Over 200 persons form a highly prepared scientific staff. Every year the museum manages to sponsor around 100 field expeditions.
In 1869 the dream of Dr. Albert S. Bickmore was brought to life. After years of lobby the former student of Harvard zoologist, Dr. Louis Agassiz received the support needed to establish a natural history museum in New York City. The buildings that nowadays occupy the bigger part of Manhattan Square were added one by one to the original building by many talented architects.

The exhibition halls host an impressive number of specimens. Mammals from Asia and North America, a blue whale in the Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life, a war canoe original from the Pacific Northwest, Star of India or a meteorite of 31 ton are some of the exponents of the floor. The anthropological collections are quite impressive as well. They come from Asia, Pacific, Africa, Mexico or Central America.
The former Hall of Human Biology and Evolution opened in 2007 on February 10 as the Bernard and Anne Spitzer Hall of Human Origins. It traces the Homo sapiens examining in the same time human creativity origins. The rocks are gathered in the Harry F. Guggenheim Hall of Minerals.
Specialists have put together amazing dioramas inside the museum. A diorama is a fake, human built habitat. The work done is so great that recreating nature by dioramas is now considered to be true art. Some of the most famous dioramas are found in the Hall of African Mammals as well as in Milstein Hall of Ocean Life. Connected to the museum there is the Hayden Planetarium named after the founder Charles Hayden. It is a piece from the Rose Center for Earth and Space.

After taking your natural history lessons the next stop should be at the gift shop. It would be a shame to waste the opportunity to take a piece from the museum with you. The gift and souvenirs section has many interesting items in the display. Dinosaurs and fossils can be found on vintage t-shirts, decks of cards, games or even on painting kits. In Earth and space the main attractions are books and robot kits. Meanwhile in Distinctively AMNH category the items are very diverse: meteorites, sculptures, paintings, books, etc.
The online natural museum gift shop is regularly updates and has the same prouducts as the “real” one. A click is worth a thousand miles. However, a visit at the AMNH may be worth much more.
